I have 2 complaints about the JD4100 & one solution.1. The Gas tank doesn't have a screen at the filler. Seems like a screen wouldbe a good insurance policy against dirt, and possibly a tool from accidentely falling into the tank. Does anyone make an aftermarket screen? Or know of one that works?2. Where is the independent Left/right brake pedal lock? Any ideas or solutions? Or is this a feature that was found on the old and/or larger tractors?3. After removing the mower deck for loader work. I found that the mower mountswould drag, In keeping the rear ballast box relatively low the to ground for added stability. This is due to the fact that the rear 3pt also controls the mid mount mower. JD has a kit to keep the mower from lowering. Not wanting to wait until this kit was ordered. I decided to find a temporary solution. Looking underneath, I found a metal bracket where the floor boards are mounted. I used a rubber bungie straps to VERY NICELY & CLEANLY hold these mid-mounts to the tractor frame, even better than the JDs kit. Although a bungie cord won't work with the mower attached, I quickly found out that one should not have the mower attached for loader work anyway. Which by the way, I was one of those guys who said "I'll leave it on". JD has truely designed this mower to be easily removed in less than 5 minutes, therefore no excuses for not removing it. I am definitely not one to monkey wrench things, but this Bungie idea has gone over so well, that my dealer is telling his 4000 customers to do this. Mainly because it really keeps the mounts tucked underneath the tractor, and NO VIBRATION. And I thought a Bungie strap was just for holding down a tarp.

You can hold tarps down with Bungy cords? I think thats the one use I've never used... ....

Yes Pete,To educate you even further. Bungie straps, normally come in 4 flavors, Bungie,Virgin Rubber,plastic & polyurethane. With such names as Bungie,tie down & Tarp straps! I'm sure there are a few names I've missed. Must be an eastcoast thing to call it a TARP strap! And to use these straps on tarps, for covering things like hay/straw/grain on a truck while in transportation or in rain. String can be a real pain in the U know what. Not to mention that stringdoesn't offer variable pressure or constant tension. All this time,I thought those little brass gromments in tarps where made, just for this purpose.. What do you use? Please share...By the way, I cut a sentence directly from a STRAP Manufacture's web page, for anyone else who didn'tknow this.Tie Down Straps - trailers, auto roof tops, trucks, tarps, tents, anywhere that constant tie downpressure required ....

Regarding the fuel tank screen: Since I was used to having one on my Kubota, I also missed having one on my JD4400 and mentioned this to my dealer--and asked him IF there was an aftermarket screen or if he knew which auto parts store might carry one that I could adapt. He went over to a lawn tractor in the showroom (maybe a JD445?) and removed its screen and handed it to me and suggested that I adapt it which I did. I took a scrap piece of plexiglass and cut out a hole just large enough for the screen to fall into and cut the outside of the plexiglass large enough for it to completely cover the fuel filler hole on the fuel tank. I now use the screen (together with its holder) as soon as I remove the fuel cap. This kludge is not as convenient as a built-in screen, but sure works better than no screen. This works great for me, but I do not use my tractor for a living, so the inconvenience of spending an extra minute to add the screen before fueling and then remove the screen after fueling is not an issue for me.Mike ....
