I am getting ready to buy a 2002 (new) 4310 with loader and r4 (industrial tires). I have done a little research about transmissions and it appears that buying the autoreverser provides substantially more power efficiency using the loader compared to the hydro. Am I way off base or is this an appropriate conclusion?

The best I can remember, the hydro will rob about 1.5 horses.

The JD brochure I'm looking at shows 27 PTO HP for the ePowerReverser and SyncShift transmissions and 25 PTO HP for the eHydro. You need to decide if the advantages of the eHydro outweigh the loss of 2 PTO HP. They did for me.

To follow up to my own post, all 4310's have the same hydraulic capacity so I'm not sure if the loss of 2 PTO HP will affect the loader at all.

bmason,

Sorry for the short reply earlier but I'll do better this time. I had a JD 4600 2WD with collar shift, now I have a 4610 4WD eHydro. I know it's not a 4310 but maybe it'll give you some kind of idea on power loss from manual tranny to hydro. If there's any power loss, it's not noticeable. To put it in simple terms, I'd go the hydro. It does make life a lot easier and not only with FEL work.

Evidently you don't have to clutch to go from forward to reverse with this transmission. What is the disadvantage of this transmission to a hydro? ....

For one thing, if you do much work on property with any kind of slope you will appreciate the hydro. Much of my property is sloped so I appreciate not having to bother with sifting and changing gears. Take my foot off the throttle pedal and I stop.

I have a 4400 so I can't comment on the bene's of the electronic stuff. ....

One advantage to a hydro is the almost surgical precision capabilities to get the tractor to where it needs to be. It's something I never was able to do with a clutch type tranny. Another thing is, if you're coming up on something you need to slow down on, just let up on the hydro pedal. It's really hard to explain how good the hydro really is. ....
