I am considering a new 790 4wd with loader. (price ~$14,000) Could someone give me some input on this tractor. I realize it is not the pretty face of the new 4000 series but I just have some basic tractor needs. My only concern is horsepower for brush hog in the deep stuff (13 acres). Thanks

I have a 790 and it is more than adaquate to run a 5 foot finnish mower in 4th gear high, if you need to mow that fast. I mow 5 acres and have no complaints. I also have the front end loader and 6 foot rear blade and turf tires, I have used the loader and the tractor is quite capable of handling a full bucket load of sod and dirt mixed with rocks. I do not have a bush hog so cannot advise you on that. But overall the tractor has operated better than expected. I paid $15,500 for the package and do not regret it one bit. I also longed for bigger and and more power, but do not regret buying the 790 ....

i looked at a 790 and i found that it is a 20 hp tractor with a 30 hp engine it only weighs 2100 lbs and don't think it would have much pulling ability. i ended up buying a 36 hp cub cadet . it weighs 3200 lbs and i think is a better tractor. i paid 14700 with no loader. hope this helps you out. ....

Wouldn't a lighter tractor be better for mowing in wet conditions? ....

I bought a new 770 4wd in 1994 with a loader, mid mower, and a 513 rotory cutter. It gets used alot. The rotory cutter can handle up to 1" brush and it does it with no problem. It gets used on a 140 acre farm. Wouldn'ttrade it for the world. May have a 5410 someday with a 609 cutter. Butthe 770 will be parked right next to it. Have fun shopping. ....
