I'm starting a part time Xmas tree farm in NW PA and need a tractor to prepare the site, mow, and spray. I've been talking with a Kubota dealer here about purchasing a L3130FST and he has quoted me a price but has an L2600DT he'd like to sell and has taken quite a bit off to entice me. My question is - can the L2600 pull a two blade moldboard in silt loam soil? I'm only planning to plow an acre or so a year. He recommended using a rotary tiller instead. Are they (Bush Hog RTS 62) robust enough to break up sod and soil that hasn't been tilled in 20 years? Any comments or recommendations from those who have experience in this area would be appreciated? Thanks.

The plow would help to break the sod quicker. The tiller woould do fine with little trouble either way but it might only need one trip to get the job done with the plow instead of two. Now if you really want to see those trees grow try to get a single tooth ripper for about 18" depth to go behind and do that on each row before planting. ....

Thanks Art,
no concerns at all about the tractor's HP being a limiting factor for this type of work? How about running a 5 foot brush hog? Are there any minimum HP requirements for running a 100 gallon sprayer or a lime/fertilzer spreader? ....

The brush hog would be the piece depending on ground speed that would use the horsepower but it will carry it without a problem. ....
