I am going to buy some R-1 tires for my 870
Is there any brands to look out for, what ply ratings are good. I was thinking 14.9x24 in back and 8x16 up front.
Are there any superior stores to buy them from? Nebraskatire sells 14.9x24 for 150 apiece for 6ply

Ag tires have many different styles in tread bar. A 23 degree bar will give you the best traction on solid footing. A steeper bar or 30 degree or better will give you better cleaning action in mud or loose soil. The steeper bar will actually give up to 7 percent less traction on good solid soil. They do have newer multi angle tread bar that gives a happy middle of the road. ....

what're your thoughts on radials? the goodyear dealer claims their ability to put more of the tread on the ground is worth the extra money. are they as much a factor as the tread pattern?

Art knows well his "stuff". Practically speaking, most people will not experience much difference with any bias r-1 treads. The radial issue is another story though. There is a major difference in the bias and radial abilities. The radials being superior. ....

Mark, thats a good start. The radial with a totally different belting design simuliar to the car tires give a longer foot print just like a car. They definitly work best without water or any type of liquid ballast. They can wear longer, and give better traction than a bias ply tire. I do recommend them to anyone that is beyond liquid ballast. Otherwise they will be no better or marginally better at best. Most compact tractors I believe will see the tires dry rot off before they loose there tread. ....
