More information about what I'm up to can be found in "Re:Ready to buy an L3710" in this forum.

Can somebody explain to me what loaded tires are and whether or not they apply to a tractor of this size. Are they useful for snowblowing ? Expensive ?

Also, any recommended accessories/upgrades out there ? I am going with a block heater and thats about it. At this time can't afford a cab.

Thanks

Al

There's probably more about loaded tires in the archives than anybody would want to read. It's a part of ballasting a tractor. Basically, it's any one of several fluids (that won't freeze) put most often into rear only tires to increase weight, and therefore traction. In the rear the weight also serves to hold down the rear during heavy loader use. Proper balance and traction are important to safe operation.

Loading is inexpensive but can be a pain if tires are punctured. Wheels may corrode as well. Some of the fluids are poisonous and sterilize the ground where they leak. Others can be flammable.

Tom, it is inxpensive to use the calcium chloride mix, but it can be expensive in twenty years or so if it has leaked and caused the rims to rust through which can last 30 or 40 years with good manitenence. There are some alternitaves that are far more costly to use initially, again if lost due to a leak expensive to replace but won't rust your rim. ....

Loaded tires are just a replacement for adding cast iron wheel weights or simuliar to the rear of a tractor to add counter balance for a loader or maybe on two wheel drive tractors just to buckle the horsepower up to the ground as they don't have tires to do so yet. Many tractors need some extra ballast over what they are built with to help with there everyday chores. ....
