My local dealer found a problem with spec'ing out a 4200 hydro with the 72" mid mount mower and R4 (IND) tires. His order book had a notation that the tires would rub the mower deck (both on 72" or 60" deck). I believe it also had this notation for the bar tire as well. Suggested to go to the larger size that's standard on the 4300. He called Deere and was told these TOO would rub in a tight turn.Other 4200/4300 owners out there with R4's and mid-mowers? Is this really a problem??? Sure would like to have the R4's!!!BTW--thanks to all who are posting the prices they've paid. This helps A LOT!Thanks!

I have had a JD 4200 for 2weeks has a 60" mid mower, loader, backhoe & rack. The R4 ind tires do rub on sharp left hand turns not a noticeable problem. would recommend just don't take that tight a turn seems to rub only on full lock up turning. If you are looking at a 4200 with collar shift the biggest promblem is the clutches before you take delivery that your tractor doesn"t grind going into gear. Poor cluth adjustment at the factory and misguided quality controll will leave you with out a tractor while your dealer ponders will JD what to do!! Hope they solve the promblem before the reputation of JD for quality contrll goes down the shoot.. Other than that loved my 4200 for the first 10 hours been at the service dept since. Not bad for a $24000. plus investment!!!! if I can be of any assistance E mail me. ....

IF you have 4WD and IF you go the larger tire route, make sure you take lead/lag into consideration. You/your dealer may have already considered this - if not, check before you go to far. Good luck :-) ....

I have a 4200 4wd with R4 tires and a 60"mid mower. The tires do not rub anywhere no matter how tight the turn. I think the dealer can adjust the deck forward and back to eliminate the problem. As a suggestion, I would go with 4300 12sycreverser just to get the syncronized gears if I had it to do over again. The 4200 has plenty of power but I would like to be able to shift without stopping. ....
