Has anybody had these problems with a BX2200. First: Right off the truck, it had problems with the deck falling. My dealer rigged it by drilling holes in the pins to the lift bars and sticking in cotter pins. Ok, no big deal. Now, a year after I bought it, the shaft from the mid pto to the mowing deck pops off after a long day of cutting, taking out the transmission casing. My service manager tells me this isn't uncommon and that, in fact, one customer has had it happened twice. Seems it shouldn't happen on a $10,000 tractor. And now the company seems like it's going to try to stiff me with the bill. Sound right to you folks, coming from the Mercedes of tractor companies?

With problems like this I have always found it best to start calling the regional or national reps the instant I get a wiff of discord from a dealer or service manager. The customer always carries more weight in such circumstances than a dealer would anyway, and only you can properly represent your best interests. ....

Dear Augie, NO! This absolutely does not sound right for Kubota. I can't imagine why there is even a hint of a problem. Your owner's manual should have the phone number direct to Kubota for service / quality related problems, use it if you get no satisfaction from the dealer. ....

Sounds more like a design problem than a service problem. In either case, I hope it's under warranty, because it would be expensive if the case has a hole in it. Design problems may be corrected outside of warranty coverage--sort of like auto recalls I guess.
I'm not familiar with the shaft. I wonder what type of locking device it has? ....

Tom that often is the problem that the shaft retainer or lock does not get fastened right and after some time it will fall off. I did it to one and wound up eating it. ....

I almost have done that with my rear PTO as well. It took me some time to discover a locking pin the first time I ever connected a shaft. Fortunately I sort of knew I didn't want to run it like that. Since then I always give the shaft a good tug to make sure the lock is set. Whether they're locked or not seems a little less obvious with collar type locks than with pin locks. ....

I also just purchased a BX2200,the second time I was mowing
the deck came off, causing some minor damage, thank goodness
it was covered. I still have a problem taking the shaft off,
when taking off the mower deck. I like the tractor but I
hope these little things do not continue. ....

Listen to ART...that shaft retaining pin is not locked. If is was there would be no way that shaft could slip off those splines. If that shaft retaining pin wasnt locked it even would slip off the rear PTO running ANY implement attached to it. ....

To me the hardest thing to connect on a belly mower is the drive shaft. Not that I don't have the arms that are the right length for someone 6'1" but I also weigh in at 250 and it is tough for me to connect the shaft if it isn't lubed right. One thing we have learned is to put plenty of a grease designed for driveshafts like this to not seize up and to make it so they slide on and off effortlessly. We often will play with them without the mower on until they are easily installed. There are times these shafts even felt they are locked but it is only due to the friction from the shaft being dry, don't be fooled, be safe and lube it up and don't be afraid to work it without the deck under the tractor as it is a lot easier to due then than after the deck is under the tractor. ....

Guess I've been long on theory for awhile and it's pleasant to get practical for a change. I've never been certain how necessary PTO shaft boots are. I haven’t gotten around to buying one, and that’s been years now. I just keep the end covered with grease when a PTO shaft isn't connected and then clean it thoroughly before connecting a shaft. ....
