I am thinking of buying a bx2200 with 60" mower and front bucket.Does any one know if the bucket will be strong enough to move dirt for making flower beds around the property? Also will it be able to break up dirt piles that have been sitting for months?

For what it sounds like you want to do the BX is definitly qualified for the job. I have a freind and to watch him transform his stark yard to a garden upon garden has been a pleasure for his wife as he had no desire to ever work in the yard and thought mowing his 7 acres "was" a chore, much less making garden beds and digging out honeysuckle that was about 10' tall in an area about 20'by 25'. ....

Since you will need a rear counter weight to do the loader work anyway, consider a 48 inch box scraper. It will loosen and relocate the dirt so you can scoop it up in the front end loader. My Deere 4100 is of similar weight and horsepower to the BX and it has no problems moving dirt with the box scraper and FEL. ....

If a BX2200 is the same as a BX22, then I think it would make the cut for anyone who seriously enjoys gardening. Being both a Kubota and a Cub Cadet owner I have to say that it (BX22) is much better an offering than the new liquid cooled gasoline engined Cub Cadet 7000's. The diesel alone puts it in a better class of machine. Should you need a backhoe, the bucket and crowd forces are the best in any small utility tractor.
While I'm at it, a special word of admiration and respect for the Hunstiger Family! I really enjoyed the Bobcat story from a different link, and having read it once before, never made the connection to the Mark who posts here. I wish you all a very long and healthy life, good family makes for good living.

No, Mark. My Dad's family, the three brothers who started the landscaping business, were from Erie, PA. My Mom's Dad, the dairy farmer, had his farm in Brookfield, CT.
I meant what I wrote because family, especially the elders, are very important to me. Seeing your family history, albeit a brief one, transported me back to a better time. I grew up around tractors, and mowers, and cows, and horses, well, you get the picture. So I enjoyed the BC story about your family because it reminded me of my past. Were it not for such strong family when growing up, I probably would have had it tough, I suspect that your family values are the same as mine. Cherish every one, and everyone.

Dairy Farms, how did we get to dairy farms? My fathers/grandfathers farm was near Utterson Ont, can you believe it. Just about broke dad's heart when they had to sell.
I guess the question about the dirt is what type of soil do you have? I can move piles here, AL red clay if they have not sat too long, but a year is about the max. Certainly a box blade with rakers helps.
My brother in law had glacial till in the yard, one used a pick and shove to dig it and a pick and shovel to move the piles. Naturally there were large granite bolders mixed in to ring the hands once in a while. In this case the answer would be no in all instances.
