Hey: I have never ask anything on this board before, but sure have gotten alot of information from it. My question is simple, I have read many of question and answers were people are mentioning Ford tractors with 100,200-500hrs on the motors. All these comments are stating either no problems or minor problems, which is good to hear. Has anyone out there operated one of these compact diesel engins to 4000+ hours. I have just purchased a TC29 New Holland, used with 118 hours on it and plan to have it for many years. I lived on a farm my whole life, been around tractors my whole life, but not compacts. All of our tractors were operated to 5&6 thousand hours before trading was considered. Can one of these compacts accomplish this same goal with proper maintanence of course.

Mark, in my opinion, the simple answer to your question is Yes. I've heard of a few, but the fact is that "compact tractors" (as we know them today) are relatively new, and it seems primarily owned by homeowners who are not really farmers, and 100-150 hours a year is about all most put on them, so there aren't just a whole lot of them around with a lot of hours on them. I would expect one, with proper maintenance, to last more than a lifetime for most of us. And like I said, that's my opinion; no proof. ....

Thanks Bird, your words are at least encouraging. I debated with myself and my wife if one of these compacts are really worth the expense. The only way my wife agreed was that I told her that one of these compacts should last us at least 15-20 years before we would have to replace it. ....

Mark, maybe I can add my two cents (1.25 US cents) worth in here. In the course of my business (golf course construction & maintenance) we run a small fleet of compacts. They work from sun up to dusk 7 days a week when the jobs are running, sometimes two shifts of operators on each machine. Most of them work through the winter also doing snow removal work. Needless to say the hours add up, fast, 18 to 20 hrs. / day X 7 days = +125 hrs. / week = +500 hrs. / month = +3500 hrs. / year. Now multiply that out over a small fleet and you begin to see what I mean. I run the machines (presently 8 of them) for two years each, only half of them are replaced each year, so the fleet is always 'half new' and 'half old' in any given year. I guess it's a good commentary on the level of quality these days, I rarely have a breakdown. To be fair though, I maintain them to death (or is that life?, LOL), as an example, each machine gets an oil change every other day (yes, every two days....), at this level of work it's merely insurance. Fear not the hour meter, LOL. Best of luck. ....

Good to hear from someone who has experience with high hour compact diesels. It is my thinking that any diesel should obtain 4000+ hours, but just havn't seen any posted on this site.
Thanks again. ....

I sold my NH 1220 a fewmonths ago with almost 3000 hours.
The only thing it needed was injectors.
