I have had a couple of instances where the "L"-Pins, which hold the 60" mid mounted mower to the tractor's rear links have vibrated out of their holes against the spring pressure, causing the mower deck to drop on the ground on one side. This has happened while mowing at the 3" height setting and also while travelling over rough ground with the mower fully raised and in the locked position. Has anybody heard of a fix for this? Are there any Kubota service bulletins or recalls to remedy this problem (e.g. stronger springs)?

Same thing happened on my BX last year. My local dealer said it is a common problem. His fix was this. They drilled holes in the L pins for a cotter pin. The hole is by the spring on the INSIDE section of the u-shaped form that drops down. That way it can't come out. It's simple stuff, but you'll need a metal drill. ....

I don't know the pin diameter, but I've seen some pretty small lynch pins. I guess I think that tractors and lynch pins just go together.
It seems most any pin that may be removed occasionally on a tractor is secured by lynch pins. Of course, cotter pins don't snap down on your thumbnail when you aren't looking, so maybe they would be better if the l-pins aren't removed often.

On lynch pins - I just bought a Landpride 3PH (as an electrichicken, it took me a while to think "3 Point Hitch in lieu of "3 Phase")finish mower that has small pins on the tops of the wheel shafts, for height adjustment. The adjustment is done by placing some of the 5 bushings on the shafts either above or below the support arm. Anyway, the top of the shaft is chamfered. The lynch pins are very easily dislodged by brushing through low branches on yews (wanted to say arborvitae, but can't spell it). I had a wheel fall off when I raised the deck. Remedy came from a trip to TruValue for 1/4 X 2-1/2" stainledd hexhead screws and nylon insert locking nuts. When I got to thinking about how many times my 8 year old Caroni deck had been adjusted, it was only once. The initial adjustment was the only one made, so the ease of pin removal really isn't an issue fo my application...........chim ....

Yes, the nylon locking nuts are pretty good things. They largely replaced lock-tight and impact drivers in the motorcycle wrenching buz. They really are good for only one time though, which isn't a problem for something that's not taken apart regularly.
I also recall that drilling a hole through the side of a round steel pin is made much easier by having a drill press and v-blocks. ....
