Has anybody attempted to use a backhoe on a john deer 4100?
The JD literature states that JD doesnt recommend it.Some other tractor companies depict use of backhoes on comparable models. I am thinking about buying a new 4100 but may need the backhoe in the future. Should I consider another tractor?

If you're buying new anyhow, why not just buy one that's designed for a backhoe? I have a 4200 with a backhoe that's designed for it and it works great. If I had been buying new, for the money difference, I'd have gotten a 4300. I hope this helps. ....

Kelley makes a frame mount backhoe kit for the JD4100. They have quite a few of them out. I'm giving a 20% discount on Kelley products. sheaftractor@coiinc.com ....

I think you can get away with the backhoe on the 4100 for occaisional use. I think constant heavy use may be a problem as the tractor might not be heavy enough.

It would be nice if JD would tell you "why" they don't recommend the use of a backhoe on the tractor. ....

I built the model 608 cadplans hoe for my 4100. This works very well and is suitable for light hoe work including trenching, small stumps etc. For occasional light use it works great. If major backhoe use is in your future, a bigger tractor may be the best bet. My dealer has told me that Deere will be coming out with a hoe to fit the expanded 4100 line (4010, 4110, 4115)though he did not have any info as to WHEN. He did not know if the new hoe will fit the older 4100.
