I went to my dealer last week to complain about rust forming under the paint on the hood of my 4100. I had found a spot about the size of a dime with a tiny crack in the paint that allowed the rust to penetrate. The tractor is only 9 months old. I expected him to offer me a can of paint or maybe offer to sand it out and repaint it himself before the rust went all the way through. Instead he called the factory and three days later I had a brand new hood, new decals and new rubber mounts for the underside of the hood, all replaced under warranty. To say that I am pleased and impressed would be an understatement. Thank you John Deere!!

Mark, that new hood was the cheapest and best solution for each of you. The benefits to you are obvious. For Deere, they make a customer happy and avoid all sorts of potential problems in attempting a fix like surface preparation, paint match, etc. Additionally, I'm sure they considered that if there's one dime-sized spot in nine months the root of the problem could well have been poor surface preparation prior to application of the original paint. They may well take your old hood in and analyze the origin of the problem to prevent it in the future. In any event, I'm glad they handled it the way they did and made you a happy customer. ....
