I have a 4200 with a loader bucket. There is no problem with it but rather with me. At over 6'-8' and 285 lbs. I find the SCV lever in the neutral position to be resting against my right leg. It seems as though a longer lever with the more horizontal section longer would be a solution. I wondered if anyone had done anything like that and what was used, etc.

Geez,I thought it was just me. I am always dumping the bucket with my leg, especially when I look over my right shoulder to backup. And at 6-4 and 270 I am way smaller, but then I am sitting on a 4100 so I guess the proportions are the same. I have considered heating the lever with a torch and bending it outward but that seems like it would lower the knob too much as it tilts outward to roll the bucket down. The other thought is to cut the lever midway on the most horitzontal leg and insert some sort of sleeve that would extend it laterally without lowering the knob. I think a 5-6 inch piece of heavy steel tube stock with an inner diameter close to the O.D. of the lever would work. That would give you a couple inches extension and at least an inch on each side to mount some set screws. ....

If I've got the idea right, you might consider if moving the lever further from the seat might subject it to getting snagged by brush. I don't know if that would be an issue, but trading a knee operated loader for a brush operated one might not be an improvement. If it could be a problem, a brush guard probably could be fabricated, which would only complicate the project slightly.
Myself, I've got old fashion in-line valves so the problem doesn't come up. I'd have to be break dancing in the seat to accidentally operate the loader.

Mark, I think I'll price a new lever before I cut into mine but I do like the idea of the metal tube on the horizontal. Thanks.

Gary, glad you have a sense of humor. I have made many modifications to my tractors and other toys. It's always very satisfying when I modify something to better suit my needs. Occasionally I drag my wife out to the barn to show her what I've done. You know like Tom Hanks, "LOOK WHAT I'VE CREATED!!". She is usually gone before I am done impressing her with my craftiness. Good luck with your modifications.

Mark, I can relate to your Subaru story. I have a full dress Honda Goldwing touring bike and have been told I'm the only person anyone's ever seen "make a Goldwing look small." I would imagine if I took off the loader and backhoe and went with a belly mower I'd make my 4200 look more like a 420 at a distance. Oh, well... ;o) ....
