Most 3 point implements require a 540rpm PTO speed. What is the speed of the PTO on an 9N, or is it variable. If the PTO speed is variable, how can you be reasonably sure that it is turning at 540rpm when using an implement that is limited to 540rpm? I have a neat 9N but no information on its operating characteristics. Thanks,Ed in Michigan's U.P.

540 RPM PTO Speed is one of the two ASTM and Society of Agricultural Engineers Industry Standard speeds. It means that at some engine RPM, usually around 1500-1900 RPM,the PTO shaft is turning at 540 RPM. If you've ever seen a tractor working, suchas bush-hogging or hay bailing, you will know if yours is at 540 or 1100 RPM.Some of the "hundred" series Fords had a Ground Speed PTO, which turned porportionalto the ground speed of the tractor. Your N has a non-live 540 RPM PTO. Also, as long as your PTO shaft spins, it willpush the tractor forward. I would get an inexpensive slip clutch if I wereyou. A bushhog may push you through a fence or something.Hope this helps,Tommy D... ....
