Had a strange one show up. Tractor has been running/starting great. Other day, it turned over about 3 times and died. Had weak dash lights and buzzing sound when tried to start. Dead battery, right? Charged battery, no dice. Really dead battery right? Replaced battery, still no dice. Ok, I'll get to it. Turned out to be the negative battery cable. No outward appearance of a problem, ie, no corrosion, no kinks, no loose or dirty connections, looked fine. But it was nearly an open circuit. New one solved the problem. Lesson, don't jump to conclusions, it's expensive.

Those of us that muck about with old tractors have been down THAT road! What happens is the cable corrodes inside the jacket. Looks fine on visual inspection, but has high resistance. Next time you run into that sort of problem, feel the cables. A cable that has done that will be too hot to hold onto. ....
