Has anyone ever tryed to replace a head gasket on a mid 80's Ford compact? I have a small leak coming from the head gasket, towards the back of the engine and it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to replace. Any recommendations or tips would be appreciated.

Below are some notes from my repair manual that covers 13 - 1710's. Some of the notes may not apply to all models or the 1210.

Glow plugs must be removed before removing pre-injection chamber. Remove sealing washer and cup type shield from the injector bore. Alternately loosen rocker bolt support bolts one turn at a time. Keep all valve components in separately marked containers. Alternately loosen cylinder head bolts one turn at a time. There also is a long list of things to remove. It shouldn't too difficult a job, but it probably would be a good idea to get a repair manual. I believe manuals can still be ordered from New Holland. Depending on the number of engine hours, I'd probably check a few other things, such as valve guides, that might need attention in the near future.
