I have purchased a new john deere 4100. Thanks for all your help in making my decision. I have used the tractor for about 10 hours and I really love it. I do have a question about the arms on the 3ph. They seem to be awful close to the tires when using the implements. Is there anyway to get the arms away from the tires a little more? I am using a rotary cutter and a box scrape. Both are 4 foot wide. Thanks for your input.

I also have a 4100, and I likewise had this same problem with my R-4 tires. The fix for this is simple and won't cost you anything. Reverse your rear wheels so that the tires are farther apart. This will give you the hitch clearance you need and also more overall stability. Remember when you reverse the wheels to swap side to side, because tractor tires have directional tread patterns (when reversed, the valve stems will face inward). After reversal, you will gain an extra 3 inches on each side. ....

Hold on a second here- are the arms actually contacting the tires? If not do nothing. If so are you out of adjustment on the sway arms? You then may need a modification to the bars and/or implements. You should not have to reverse tires. My 4100 fits my implements, but I fine tune my hitch for best fit. ....

Thanks for the input. The arms contact the tires when lifted all the way up. I can adjust the sway arms to stop the contact, but they are still within 1/2 inch. I went ahead and put 3 ph pins on the inside of the box scape instead of using pins. Then turned the pins around on the rotary cutter(had to do a little cutting of the bracing to allow for the lifting angle of the arms) and now I have 3 inches clearance on each side. After repainting all looks like it came from the factory. Thanks for all your help. The thing that bothers me is that it ended up very easy to fix. You would think JD would have already engineered this from the factory. ....

Keith and Rick, What kind of tires do you have on your 4100? With AG tires there is no problem with the 3 pt rubbing, but with the industrial R-4 tires, mine would always either rub or be darn close when the hitch was raised up all the way. Reversing the wheels seemed like the only option for some implements. But I like the wider stance better anyway ....

Same as Keith. If your sway links are properly adjusted there should be no problem. With my rear blade there is about 1 inch clearance. The hitch never hits the tires (turf tires). ....

Jim T- I have R-4s on my 4100. I've got 1" an each side with a ballast box and the same for my tow hitch. What is the width from pin hole to pin hole on your attachtments? ....

My 4100 has turf tires. There is about 1 inch clearance when using the implements. The problem is when transporting the implement in the full up position, then the arms bump into the tires. The problem was solved by reversing the 3ph pins to the inside on each implement. Now there is about 3 inches of clearance. ....

Keith, the pin to pin clearance width on my attachments varies. I have lots of toys. Some worked fine, but others rubbed the tires when transporting in the fully raised position, due to the small amount of unavoidable sway. The worst problem I had was on my 3-point dirt scoop. I corresponded with JD factory rep and was told the best way to eliminate the problem was to reverse the rear wheels. I did this and now have no clearance problems with any implement. I found that I also prefer the wider stance due to the increased overall stability and the additional room to hook up implements. I think that overall I gained maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inches on each side of additional clearance (3 to 4 inches overall width). ....

Jim, I agree with you. I have R4 tires on my 4100 and my lift arms would hit when raised all the way up. I adjusted the links and the arms from narrow to wide adjustment but it didn't help much. I called the dealer and he suggested turning the tires out. It made a hudge difference. I have plenty of clearence. The tractor is much more stable with the loader and it's alot easier to clean the rear end of your tractor. I have several attachments and the pin widths are different on all of them. Turning the tires out makes attaching much easier.
