I own an older L-245DT. I know diesel engines are noisy but I can hear a loud ticking on top of the typical diesel knocking. Is this normal? The tractor only has 400 hours. I have never owned a compact and maybe I'm just paranoid.

Frank, I have two L245DT's One has 470hrs. and the other has 1400hrs. of hard use. Both sound just like your description. I have read of others saying the same thing. Some of these older tractors are running and working fine with over 3000 to 4000 hrs on them. One thing Kubota is known for is they make a hellofafine engine. You only got 400 hrs. on her so don't sweat a thing. Don't worry mon! do your maintenence and check the grease and lube and use her! ....

That is very low hours for that vintage tractor and there are some things to consider here. Chances are when the tractor has been run, that it might not have been up to operating temperature often enough and there might be some build up in the engine. I would start with a good injector cleaner and after to try and have the valves adjusted. You could leave it alone and not do anything until you need to which might be a long time as you don't have any hours on it to speak of. I would make sure that the engine is coming up to temperature at the least. ....
