Has anyone here had experience with "Howse" brand grader blades. There an 8' model on clearance sale at a local dealer for $300.00. It is called farm grade, weighs about 400#, has tilt and angle (offset too, if you want to change six bolts) and a blade that is flat with an angle at the top and bottom (of maybe four inches). It appears to have been laying around for a couple of years in his yard and is a little rusted here and there, but nothing serious. Is this a good buy for light/moderate use?

Cutter, Howse is one of the cheaper brands, but I think plenty good for a lot of uses. I have a Howse model 500, 5' rotary cutter, and a Howse 5' box blade that I've been using for over a year and am satisfied with them. The 5' box blade cost me $295, so $300 for an 8' blade doesn't sound bad to me. ....

I think HOWSE is some of the lowest quality on the market. Check out King Kutter..
better quality in the same price range
....

Howse is not the best blade, but might be adequate. To me "farm grade" means "adequate"....The price is cheap enough. Is your tractor large enough to do work with an 8 foot blade? That is pretty large. I would think it would take more than 30 hp and with quite a bit of tractor weight to pull an 8 footer. ....

I have a tc29 to use with the blade. I want it for clearing snow, that is all. I plan on purchasing a blower at some point, and don't want to spend a lot on this now. I have and OLD 6' blade that is very light, tends to ride up over the snow once it is packed a little bit. If the consensus remains that 8' is too large for that purpose, I will look into a 7'. Thanks for the input. ....

Is there any reason you couldn't cut it shorter if 8' is too hard to pull? A torch would make short work out of it.

I had thought of that myself, but if the thing is no deal I will buy a 7'. Why go through the time and aggravation of cutting, grinding and painting unless it is a couple hundred in savings. Froom what I have read here, sounds like it may be too large for a tc29 and not THAT great a buy. ....

Cutter: You might have some luck with your existing blade if you put some weight on top of it. Maybe there's an old barbell set lying around or something. Extra weight does help a blade to cut, but there are limits. More weight places more stress on the hitch mounts. The mounts on a light implement probably are light duty, and adding a lot more weight to an implement is inviting mount failures.
