Yanmar PTO Problem

Hi everyone. I have a Yanmar 186D and I have a problem getting the PTO to engage sometimes. The clutch works fine for the trator wheels but I often have to persuade the PTO to go in (double clutch it). It will also sound a series of tick, tick, ticks descending in frequency as the PTO spins down when I push in the clutch (especially if the implement is in the air, in this case, the tiller). The transmission oil is fine. Any ideas?

I have a YM240 that does the same thing. The clicking noise you hear is the rachet in the PTO that prevents the PTO driven implement's momentum from pushing the tractor. A lot of tractors don't have this safety device built in. The noise concerned me until I found out what it was. ....

Thanks for the comment. Any idea what part of the PTO accomplishes this? I fear it is more than what you suggest because I have a hard time getting it into (PTO) gear - I have to double clutch. But it would be nice not to be concerned about the clicking - a momentum dissapating device - something to do with the overdrive clutch perhaps? ....
