I have a neighbor trying to sell me a Yanmar 187D tractor with a Woods F35 60" mower deck, I think it is 3-4 years old it is in excellent condition as he only has a 1.5 acre lot and the tractor has seen very little use. He just realized he could mow faster with a smaller front mount or zero turn mower and offered me what he calls a real deal. Anyone have any price guides? Thanks.

The Yanmar 187D was and still is a very nice tractor, so it is well worth looking into even though they were made during the 1980s - so it is more that 3 or 4 years old. We would have to know a bit more about it to evaluate the price. Is he the original owner? Why the 3 or 4 years old story? Any other attachents? Which kind of tires? Ag or turf? How many hours does it have on it? What kind of maintenance history?
The 187D is a 4wd with the upgraded three point, long wheelbase for the mower deck, and the shuttle shift. Power steering was optional. The 18 hp 3 cylinder engine is a beauty. ....

Thanks for the info: The tractor has turf tires, 625 hrs, it looks real sharp and everything this guy owns looks sharp so I think the maintenance history should be okay. It sounds really good when running. The owner is in his 80's and I think his concept of time is not what it once was, that may explain the 3-4 yr age guess. Again , thanks. ....

The deal sounds good. If you want to talk about actual dollars, I am more comfortable doing that via email. The engine in the 187D was a particularly good combination of displacement and balance - hence it is a quiet and smooth runner as you say. Yanmar tractors have not been imported since he late 1980s because of Yanmar's business arrangement with JD. They do maintain a well-stocked parts depot and still support their tractors with upgraded parts and good manuals for the models that they imported....but no dealers. There is a difference in market price and support between the "gray market Yanmars" and the US imported models. The brand has a sort of cult following among the tractor mechanical and design hobbyists. ....
