My TC25D is squealing like crazy whenever I press the HST pedal all the way down. We haven't had any cold weather yet and I just performed the 50hr service yesterday hoping that a clean filter and oil would eliminate the problem. The squealing began just a week or so ago and I don't know enough about the mechanics of the HST to know where to begin looking. Can anyone offer any advice?

You did not say what kind of front axle you had. I have the super steer. I had the same problem at about the same number of hours. I thought it was an oil relief valve lifting. I changed the HST filter but no effect checked oil levels and all was okay. The problem was that there was not enough grease put into the plastic shield/ cover on the drive shaft going into the sensitrack assembly unit. There is a zerk on this cover and although I had put in more grease it was not enough. I had to put enough in to come out the end leading to the transmission. Mine would only do it for a little while (going frontward or backwards)when it was cold and then go away. The sound was coming from underneath the tractor at mid section. I isolated the problem by jacking up the rear end and lifting the front with the loader. I then disconnected the input shaft to the front wheels at the transmission output. When forward travel was selected the noise was not there any more. This was a relief as it was not in the hydrostatic hydraulics. Hope this helps. By the way I truly enjoy the super and would order this feature again any time. Hans ....

Hans - Thanks for the feedback. I have the standard axle on my tractor. I also noticed that if I hold down the HST pedal with the trans in neutral (I assume this cycles the oil), there is no squealing. I'll try to lubricate that drive shaft better as you indicated and go from there. ....

Chris,
Hans' solution worked on my tractor. Mine is a TC29S (standard transmission with live pto); it started occasional squealing with only 11 hours on it. I could even feel a vibration through the floorboard. I found the grease fitting on the back of the front axle that looked like it hadn't been greased. Applying grease to it fills up the plastic front driveshaft cover. I wasn't sure how much grease to put in; the owners manual doesn't even mention this fitting (maybe that's why it was overlooked). Anyway, I pumped it about full of regular wheel bearing/chassis grease, and it hasn't squealed any more in the last 2.5 hours of operation.
