Hello,I own a New Holland TC-18 and am looking at a Great Bend Loader Model 220. The price I was quoted was less then the Woods and New Holland. I am leaning towards the Great Bend because the front mount doesnt block the use of front weights. I need the front weights to offset the rear mower. Does anyone own or used one in past? Any info on Great Bend would be great. Thank You Ray

I haven't looked at the small Great Bend loaders, but my buddy just put one on his 35 HP Massey and I was favorably impressed with the design and craftsmanship. It doesn't seem that you can go too far wrong with loaders these days, all of the ones that I have seen in the past couple of decades are well made. If you want to get picky, one thing to look for is that the spool valve is sized to the tractor and loader. Spool valves built for low flow rates are usually more expensive than the more common standard Ag size of 12 to 20 GPM.... but the smaller one sure makes fine bucket control smoother. Another thing is a top edge on the bucket that is well reinforced. You will probably weld a grab hook up there and some buckets bend pretty easily. Don't get too large of a bucket, a smaller one is often more useful. A clip-on tooth bar is a wonderful thing if you do much digging.
Front weights? A loader is pretty heavy. In fact,it is probably already heavier and providing more leverage to counterbalance the mower than any front weights that you would put on the tractor.

I'm not familiar with GreatBend loaders but would offer one concern regarding weight distribution. If you have a loader and weights on the front you may have the ability to overload the front axle leaving your rear wheels off the ground, especially if the loader sticks out front far enough to clear the front weights. This extra weight may also be too much for the tires, be sure that your axle limits, wheels, tires, wheel hubs, etc are all sized according to the potential total weight with a loaded FEL.

I have been told (by my JD dealer no less) that the Great Bend loader (subsidiary of Bush Hog) is just as good as the JD loader, but costs 20% less $. Looking at the specs for the Great Bend and the JD model for my tractor, they are nearly identical. My JD dealer has a whole lot full of new Great Bend loaders and a couple of JD models. Go figure. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, and I would but for a few details such as $2K extra spending money.
