I have a Kubota 2910 with about 40 hours on it. I noticed that very ocassionally the reverse pedal seems very stiff and reverse speed is limited. The linkage seems free and doesn't bind. It appears to be internal to the transmission. Is this a defect?

Kelly, I'm not enough of a mechanic to diagnose that problem, but I'd sure be calling the dealer. If there are no obstructions to the linkage and it's free, my shop manual mentions a possibility of a problem with high relief pressure and, if that's it, the dealer should take care of that. ....

Kelly,
I will bet your problem is the same as I have noticed
on my 2910. My leg pushes the big orange cruise control
knob over just enough to block reverse. The cruise works
OK, But it sure is in the way. Too many trips to the dinner
table maybe part of my problem.
Gerald ....

Kelly, I agree with Gerald. I have this problem with my 2910 also and it drove me nuts for awhile. If you lean against the cruise control lever just a little the reverse linkage seems to bind. I have had to develop the habit of reaching down and pulling the cruise lever towards me whenever I back up. I might have had to many trips to the dinner table also. ....
