I have a 4200 Hydro. with about 130 hours. The dealer has serviced it twice for transmission grinding. When pulling a plow or digging with the loader... My wheels will basically stop turning and the transmission grinds/vibrates. I am on the second transmission. Tractor is about to go into service for the third time.Anyone else having this type of problem??

I just had a transmission replaced in a 4200 because two bearings had gone out
I was also getting the grinding noise in reverse, but the main symptom was
sometimes freewheeling and sometimes the hystat would grab when coming to a
stop. In B range you should be able to creep forward smoothly, and I couldn't do that. Can you?

Would your wheels actually stop turning??? My tractor justs grinds and does not turn the wheels over.
When I'm not pulling or pushing something with a lot of resistance... It works fine. Moving forward slowly is fine in any position (A,B or C).
I do notice some noise at the lower speeds though. ....

No, I always could generate good pulling effort, and the wheels would never stop while under load. You've got something wierd going on. Good luck.

Well... here is what was happening..
I had my wife video tape the problem as it occured. I hooked up the loader and pushed a large dirt pile. Large enough that the tires would spin. From the tractor seat... I could see my right tire stop turning and a grinding noise would come from the transmission area of the tractor below the seat.
When I looked at the video... I could see that my right tire would stop turning but the wheel would continue to turn. The rim had come loose from the tire. I assume the imbalanced tourqe (left wheel still getting traction) is what causes the transmission to grind.
The Deere repair shop was happy to see that I found the problem. They have the tractor now which will probably need another transmission... And a new tire/wheel of course!!
I hope all will be O.K. after this...

When I let off the pedal on my 4300 quickly the hydro will grab and stop the tractor quickly like the jerking you describe. If I let off the pedal slowly it will ease to a stop. This seems to be normal operation to me. I don't know if that helps with your hydro jerking problem. You should be able to pull, push and dig pretty well. I have yet to pick too big of a job for ours. ....
