I have a 98 JD 770 that I purchased last fall with 60 hours. I have 85 hours on it now and am about to change the oil. There is what appears to be an oil filler on the front right of the engine in addition to the regular filler on the top of the valve cover. It has a yellow cap. The owners manual does not show this filler for any system, at least at a quick glance. What is it for? Is it for the hydraulic system maybe? Sorry for the basic nature of this question, but the tractor and manual are 75 miles away and I will be taking everything to service it there. Also, what kind of oil would you recommend? Delvac? or some of the other diesel specific synthetics? Thanks in advance for the help!

Dave, both or filler ports. I always used the one on the valve cover, as it was easier to get to, your choice. As for oil, just stay with a quality product, 15w-40. My preference is Mobile One 15W-50 but some may not agree. Bottom line just make sure it meets John Deere specs. ....
