Just got a new JD 4100 with a 410 front loader.I have about 3 acres a new land that is mostly uneven and rocky.(however, all stumps and giant rocks have been cleared.) There is not an inch of grass anywhere and I would like to clean up what I can, maybe spread some good soil and one day have some grass !!!!Dealer recommended a couple Land Pride implements that I may want.A rear blade and/or a landscape rake. Can anyone help me with what these do best and what they don't do well.Trying to make the best decision and since most of the money went to buy the tractor in the first place, don't have much left over :-) :-) :-)

I agree a box blade will level the ground better along with holden most of the rocks to deposit in a central location. A regular blade will work, however it will take longer and will not remove many rocks, but can be used to remove snow from the driveway. The landscape rake it mainly for top dressing the lot after it's been leveled to prepare it for seed. In all likely hood you will only use it(landscape rake) a couple of times and it would be cheaper to rent one for the weekend $50-$75 verses $250+ new. ....

GeorgeI also have the 4100 with the 410 loader; a little over 100 hours on it now. I have most of the implements, including what you are asking about. Everything does a specific job but from where you are now I would not get the rear blade and the rake can wait also; you may want it later. The box blade is about as basic as you can get and is good for leveling the rough land; pasture is about what I had before starting to get some grass planted..sounds like yours is similar. I also have a pulverizer 5footer which is very good to level and loosen the top 2-3" of ground before grass planting. I bought most implements used, saved hundreds and gave up little to nothing in the way of performance. There are so many used implements on the market, you should save alot. Landpride is recognized as a good brand name but also expensive in my book. Quality is important but if I will use an implement just a few times, I might buy a cheaper version if it is new, otherwise I look for good quality, good name, used stuff. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A ROCK RAKE AND LAND SCAPE RAKE AND HOW DO YOU USE THEM?HOW MUCH DO YOU LET IT DOWN AND WILL IT THROW THE ROCKS AS THE TINES SCAPE THE GROUND. ....

Hi George,My suggestion with the landscape rake or rock rake and any 3pt blade is to weld on a gauge wheel to each end, that can be adjusted up or down using a clip pin. Some may already have this feature from the factory. This eliminates "hopping" or "gouging" and leaves a level surface just like a road grader. Works like a charm on loose fill surfaces. Real rocky ground will be a challenge any way you go. ....

George, I bought a 4100 tractor last August . I used a 6 ft york rake to level off the sides of a pond,that were prety rough, It worked great. Make sure if you go that direction, that it is a true york, and not some cheap junk where the tines will constantly break. Also make sure it has wheel casters on the back ,this makes all the difference in the world. 6 ft is a little much for the 20 hp tractor,5ft would be perfect. Another good idea was the box scrapper,but when it comes to the finnish work you will need a good rake. You know what i would do........BUY IT ALL YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH...... We should set up a way of communicating to other 4100 owners... Anyone know how.I am from western NY. ....
