Has anyone used the power tools that you can use on the RTV900?
Does the Gator have an option or the ability to hook up hydraulic tools like the RTV? I just noticed the optional tools on the RTV tonight and though that was pretty slick.

Wow, those are pretty slick. When I got my first Gator I looked at the tools John Deere was making exclusivly for it-and they were all pretty pricey. And I started wondering- Why wouldn't I just throw a generator in the back end and use the tools I already own?

Along the line of remote electrical power, I have a 5000 watt 12vdc-120vac convertor under the seat of my Dodge. It has three power outlets. It's about the size of a big telephone book. Found it new on eBay for $215 inc. shipping. It will run a 6.5 HP shop vac on a 100 foot cord or a 9 inch grinder. It's handy for camping, charging cellphones on the road (when others only bring their home charger) or any situation that needs power. Oh yeah, I've used it to run part of my home's electric in a power outage (made a two-male-end cord and plugged it into an outside outlet (WARNING: If you do this, be sure to isolate the power from the utility company's by removing/turning off the main breaker or fuse so that it doesn't backfeed the power lines and hurt the powerline workers). ....

Chain saws, water pumps, limbers and the other attachmnents do make it nice for the rtv when using the proper system. It certainly isn't for everyone but it does add some versatility to the unit. I don't recommend just hyjacking the dump circuit but to spend the money for the entire system. ....

I looked at the RTV900 today and at least here in Miami- no one seems to know how to order these units. I also looked at the 1100 as well.
The 900 is a great unit. ....

I doubt that anyone when they see the price will sell their other power tools but if they didn't have them the rtv can get your work done without a problem where you want to work. ....

Botics,
The only tool I see that might be of any real use is the hydraulic post driver, but I doubt that the RTV900 will have the ability to haul or pull enough fencing supplies around to make it of much use to a rancher.
If anyone here has ever owned an electric chainsaw, then you likely know what it's like to drag the thing around through the branches and tree limbs. With a set of hydraulic hoses attached, it will only make the problem worse.
I honestly don't see much of any use for the RTV900, or its tools. It seems to me that the whole thing is nothing more than a very expensive toy.
I've been proven wrong more than once.......but I'm not too worried about being wrong on this one. It's gonna take a lot of arm-twisting to get me to change my mind.

Cando and Art; We had probably 12 or 15 applications on the farm where we powered grain bin unload augers, floor sweeps, transfer augers, etc. with one or two hydraulic motors powered by a farm tractor that was also powering the PTO drive truck auger. Compared to electric motors, breakers, belts, etc. we had practically zero maintence compared to electric drives. We had identical drive couplers and three pin mounts on every application so changing a motot from one to another took seconds. In the case of draging hydraulic hoses around behibd a power tool, no, they are heavy enough already. Haven't they heard of a generator? Frank ....

Frank,
Maybe the good folks at Kubota will come up with a hydraulic operated can opener. Campers and hunters would love it!
Seriously, I don't know what in the world I would ever use such a machine for. Even a toy pickup would be worth more to me as a tool, but I don't even own one of them simply because they aren't powerful enough for my liking.
The RTV900 isn't any worse than the rest of them, it's just that none of these machines impress me in the least.
I once had a lame horse. She was blind in one eye and couldn't see out of the other -- but even she was more useful to me than any of these Utility Vehicles would be.

Cando; As I posted earlier the gadget attachments are a bit rediculous. As you posted you have never owned one of these machines. We are on our third Gator an XUV. We had a traditional 4X2, they were a bit limp, then an HPX, lots better, but the new XUV is awsome. Don't knock one till you have had it around for a week. The Mrs. and I are both handicapped, we could'nt do anything around the farm without the Gator. Just last week it pulled two loaded hayracks several times, hauls tools, hauls rocks. hauls junk, etc. etc. Like I told Art a couple days ago about not trading three new Town Cars for a Shelby Mustang, it would take four Town Cars to get the HPX away from us if I couldn't get another one. I won't make any comparisons between brands, because I'ver never driven another brand, just Gators. Like the old guy on the TV commercial used to say "Try it You'll Like It". Frank. ....

diddo on the power of RTV's. I had a gator pulling a trailer with 400 gallons of water (3336 pounds. I never got above 10 mph, but it got where I needed it to go which was where a pick up couldn't, and it never overheated. ....

While I've held off buying an RTV or Gator, we do have the original of that style of machine, the I-R Toolcat, there is a BIG difference between them though.
As has already been stated, an RTV or Gator seems to be not much more than a golf cart on steroids.
However, in my case the Toolcat was bought for, and continues to be for, a single site, and it never leaves there except for service work that can't be done in the field.
If we ever get stopped from using trucks on our sites, and they're talking about it lots now, I will certainly buy an RTV or three, but until then it's just an extra vehicle I don't (yet) need.
Best of luck. ....
