Driving past a construction zone today I saw two big Hitachi backhoes that looked like they were painted Kubota orange. I seem to remember seeing green Hitachis before too, but not JD green - a darker shade. Anyone know the story on Hitachi paint?

Most of the Hitachi I've seen were Gray/Orange (gray body and orange sticks)

I worked for a major crane manf. and we had some companies that wanted their machine painted a certain color. Some companies used a color so as to be recoginized in the business. Some companies used a color to help prevent theif or to help quickly identify their machine if stolen. Have no idea if that is what you are seeing or not. ....

Kthompson is right about some construction companies having specific equipment colors. There is one I know of that is large enough that Deere changed their factory so they could paint backhoes in that color. Helped them make the sale since the customer didn't have to go through the extra step and higher cost of a re-paint.
I went to Hitachi's website (link below) and their equipment is an orange color. Probably helps with visibility on the jobsite. But I may be reading too much into it. ....
