Since some of you guys are pretty sharp on mechanical stuff...
My sister has a Subaru Forester, which she loves. Recently it started making a high-pitched whine or squeal after she turns if off. The first time she heard it, was after she got home from work, after she shut the car off. The next time was in the morning, before driving it. She opened the hood and says it seems to be coming from the front of the engine.
No problems other than the noise, but she is having it checked out, and of course the shop doesn't hear anything. Any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks,
Bill

It could be the bearings in the electric radiator fans. They will be running after the engine is off depending on how hot the coolant is. It's possible the fans aren't running when the mechanic looks at it.

The 2nd time she heard it, the car had been sitting overnight (outside) and hadn't been started yet.
She says it isn't very loud; you can't hear it inside the car, only from the outside, standing near the front.
I don't think it could be anything mechanical or fluid-flow related. She isn't close enough for me to look at it, but if it were mine, I'd unhook the battery to see if the noise would quit, maybe something electronic.
Thanks,
