I just stopped at the dealer. He says nothing is moving. About 8 accounts owe $12k or more and are paying $50 a month. Business is down 30%. I tried to tell the wife we should purchase a gator to lift his spirits. But to no avail - I haven't had a raise in 2 years either.
So, will this be a year with good deals for tractors? Also since Polaris isn't selling any snowmobiles, maybe they will have good deals on the Sportsman X2 :)

It seemed like they were giving them away last year with all the incentives. It may depend on the location.
In the last two-three years the JD dealer when belly up and a new dealer located out of town with a new building. The NH-Case-Kubota dealer expanded as did the Massey dealer with a new location. Finally Montana moved in with a new dealer out of town. I am not sure they all have the business for all the stock. ....

I was at Dealer the other day. They sold all of the new cabbed cuts B4 & as soon as they arrived. No other stuff seems to be moving.
My wife's embroidery business is down also. I just can not see people with the extra cash on hand.
Gas is going up... Stock market seems to be moving some. You'd think things are starting to improve. ....

My dealer said he thought this slowdown was industry wide. Supposedly the overall US economy is "white hot" right now with 5% unemployment. So I wouldn't have expected such a negative view from the dealer. On the other hand, wouldn't business always be at its slowest in January? Or maybe this IS a local phenomenon to NY? ....

Spend some time in Michigan, anywhere you go from here will be an improvement. The depressed auto and manufacturing related businesses are dragging the state bad. You can't give away a home, or anything else here right now. Real estate agents don't even want to list property because they know they can't sell it.
Hopefully this is the bottom. We went through this in the early 80's in Michigan, and we came back strong. We'll see what happens this time. ....

In our area tractor sales are always slow in winter. There's generally not enough snow to encourage equipment sales and the ground is too wet and mucky to work. The dealers seem to plan for it though since their lots seem to have about the same amount of inventory as always. ....

I would expect it to be typically slow in the winter. Here it's pretty slow since the ground is supposed to be frozen, but it hit 59 degrees yesterday.
Also, the AG industry in general is expected to head downward due to the significnatly higher fuel prices and crop prices that haven't risen to offset it. The petroleum based chemicals are also much higher for the farmers.
I would expect farmers to wait on purchasing to avoid higher equipment payments until they can see how the markets are going handle the higher fuel costs. Just my few pennies.
Tha ag industry is cyclical and it's been very good the last couple of years. It should be heading downward. ....

In my part of the world the dealerships that depend on the farmer or ag business is slow. Those that sell to the homeowner, construction and turf seem to be doing very well.
The farmers here will be pleased to know the last two years were good. Guess that is why so much farm land is for sale or sitting idle.
Just goes to show how large and varied the USA and Canada are. ....

Some sizes are up nationally and some are down. Much of what has been said is true and I'm glad we live in NY as it normally stays consistantly slow so we gain most all years. ....
