Well don't know if this is the rite place to post this----
IS there a preferred way of having the drive cog in diff. locations ---instances---IE.- like having the drive cog in front going up hill OR down hill with my Kobelco Excavator ( rubber tracts)---
What is the best method for the cog dive gear position position---in rocks, mud, hills, etc.

There's 2 schools of thought on this;
First is that the drive cogs should always be at the downhill end of the track since they work by pulling on the bottom section of the track and thus keep the bottom tight.
The second is that if the drive cogs are at the top the most slack is at the bottom and so if you encounter a rock or something it's the easiest on the track.
IMHO, it doesn't matter a spot to the track, but going up or down a hill with the back-fill blade at the bottom (if yours has one) is the most convenient since it makes a dandy parking brake and helps level the machine if you stop part way up or down the hill.
Best of luck. ....

In the case of dozers tracks (not tracts) are driven from the rear which supports Murf's point a loose track is more forgiving if a rock gets in the there. ....
