I was approached with the opportunity of purchasing a Titan generator - 8500w with the bells and whistles, including elec. start and everything else. Question - I've never heard of Titan and was wondering if anyone else had, and what the concensus was on them. Supposedly are made in North Carolina, and carry several different product lines worth of equipment.
Any advice would be appreciated - - -

Willie; Titan farm tires are pretty common here in the midwest, but I don't think they are in the generator business. I bought a Winco PTO generator that hasn't got here yet, but should be along any day now. We have a local dealer who has sold Winco for probably 20 years or more, I just went on his advice to pick a brand, He is local and has had lots of repair experience, During and after our ice storm of a couple months ago he said he repaired over a hundred generators and sold I think he said over 50 new ones. Best of luck. Frank. ....

Frank ~
Quite familiar with the Titan tires also, as I have them on several units now. However, this Titan is strictly for power equipment from the N/S Carolina area. I cannot find anyone that knows anything about them - good or bad.
For whatever reason, I cannot access any message in full, other than the first 2-3 lines, so I have no idea what the balance of your response mentioned.

WillieH; I was having the same problem as you a month or so ago, seems like I re logged on and that fixed it, maybe give thst a try. If you can now pick up the whole post, I had went on to say that after the big ice storm here of a couple months ago that I went to a local Winco generator dealer who has been in the electric motor and generator sales and repair business for 20 years or longer for his advice on what to buy. I had heard of many brands of generators but knew basicly nothing about any of them, so I bought the Winco based on his experience and reputation. I had him order what he recommended but it isn't here yet, he said they were basicly cleaned out of inventory after the ice storm and would probably have the model I ordered back in stock by May first, so it should be along soon. I had not heard of Titan brand, but they are probably good as any. Frank. ....

WH I'll buy what Frank is saying. Most generators are rebadged into a "Brand Name" for reconition. I have seen adds for the Titan brand equipment but do not remember where.
Unless you plan to use any of the off brands 24/7 they should last for a infinite amount of time. Remember all gen sets should be drug out 1 or 2X a year and exercised to keep every thing polarized and the other technical stuff that electrical/magnetic fields need to do to create power, ball bearing moved and lubed. I like to use mine for heavy rod burning. Its fun to hear the tractor grunt under load...
All that said we have a 460/3 at work I can not even beging to pronounce the name. It runs 60+ hours a week (most weeks) all summer every summer with no hiccups. It is mounted in back of a Cummins. ....

Hardwood, Harvey ~
This is REALLY aggravating...that is, only to be able to read a couple lines of text. Last I knew, before I had gone away, I was a premium member - now that I am back, I'm not(?!) - that is the only thing that I can come up with as being different now.
As far as the gensets go, perhaps that is the case, where these units are actually the name brand, and what we see are repackaged for John B. Smith company. I came acrossed the website for Titan equipment but it really does not offer anything for support, testimonials etc. - though does show an extensive product line. Coming from a service and repair background, and having customers bring gensets in on occasion for repair, I can say that I am quite familiar with the idea of firing these sytems periodically thru-out the year, and the theories behind it.
I guess I'll try once more, and dump my cookies and reboot and everything else, if it still doesn't correct itself, then I guess I'll just have to read the first two lines and be satisfied with that! :-(
Thanks for the assistance guys -

Willie I had the same issue--either contact CTBDennis (the board owner) or start a new post about your membership issue and that will catch Dennis's eye. ....

The Titan brand is Chinese junk. The company sends guys out in open pickup trucks loaded with compressors and generators and they all have the same story--"The boss wants me to sell these for cost and will throw in a __(your choice)___ if you buy the expensive one for $3000". All a bunch of bull. They use engines that look like Hondas but aren't. Take a look at the rough-looking castings of compressors and you'll see what I mean. The chrome plating isn't chrome. It's nickle which is thin and rusts in no time. ....

earthworks -
That seemed to be the exact scenario, with the truck filled with a "deal" - two gensets, compressors and some incidentals. The website must be a scam as well, as I had been leaning towards. I appreciate the input.
