In the market for a new tractor. Help me compare the JD 870, MF 1240,Kubota L2650 and the Ford/New Holland 1715. I am looking for an economicaltractor to use on 10 acres used for our home and cattle grazing. Need to mowdisc, build driveways, drill post holes. Thanks for your help.

Scott, I am also doing a comparison in this HP range. My needs might be different from yours, but Im leaning towards the Kubota L2500DT. The Massey is a good tractor, but seems a bit complicated. I dont care for all the "extras" like the tilt steering, swivel seat, flat foot area, etc..Im not familiar with the NH 1725. I think the new ones are TC25's. They are nice, but too much plastic. As far as the JD 870, Im also not familiar, but the "4000" series tractors are nice, but Pricey.Personally, I need 4 wheel drive, ag tires, and a manual trans. I do not like Hydrostat(driven manual all my life). Its all a matter of preference. There are folks on this forum that will tell you that hydro is the way to go for ease of use and for resale. Personally, I dont care about resale, because Ill probably have the tractor for the rest of my life!I like the Kubota because it has a proven track record, and it feels like what Im used to in a tractor(shifter between your legs, hump in the middle,etc)..Do you need 4wd? a front end loader? a belly mower or pull behind? Around here, the Kubotas and New Hollands are the same price(around 10,500 for 4wd) The Masseys are around 13,200 I think. One advantage to the Masseys is the independent PTO, which the others dont have, except JD. The Massey is a very nice tractor, but a little high. To be honest with you, they are all good tractors! It all comes down to the dealers in your area. Hope I have confused the issue.. Mike ....
