Mechanical oil pressure guage reads 45 psi during first 10-15 minutes of operation, then when warm, needs to run at 2000 RPM to 'break' 20 psi. At idle, pressure is almost at zero psi. It has only 627 Hours, so seems unlikely bearings would not be worn that much. I started out using Delo 15W-40, then 30W, now 40W to keep pressure barely adequate. Anyone had experience with this? I'm wondering about oil pump? Pressure relief in pump? I haven't had the pan off (yet), but any input would be appreciated before I take that step. Thanks, CBehling

The rule of thumb (for most engines) for minimum acceptable oil pressure readings are 10 PSI per 1000 RPM, so your at the minimum. Aside from bearing wear, heat seems to be thinning your oil too much. Is your engine running too hot? Does it have an oil cooler and is it operative? Maybe use a straight 50 weight oil keep the pressure up. ....

Engine running at normal temp--never has shown tendancy to overheat, even when working hard. Does not have oil cooler, but that may be a good idea for a solution for oil thinning due to heat (thanks). I had thought about going to 50W oil. The thing that puzzles me is that the engine doesn't indicate excessive wear--it burns clean and runs good, whereas my old 8N has a zillion hours on the original engine and has low compression, but the oil pressure stays up around 50 psi at anything over idle--I know--two different "animals". ....

That has to be a weak relief valve spring. Kubota had a bunch of these back in the 80's. The 1914 is the D950 engine Kubota used in B7200 and B8200 tractors exacto part for part! ....

What about the psi gauge are you sure that the reading is correct. That might be the best way to solve the problem. Clogged line, bad gauge, bad fitting.

The weak relief valve spring makes sense. I was wondering if there was a history of this type of problem. Your post seems to confirm. Interestingly, this summer when I used the tractor and after warming up to the point of the oil pressure dropping, I happened to shut it down for 15-20 minutes. When I restarted, the oil pressure stayed up around 40 psi for the rest of the job. The shut down was not long enough for the oil to cool appreciably, but maybe was enough for a sluggish relief valve to close some, and when I restarted with oil already warm and thin, the relief was not opened as much as would have been with cold oil. That's my theory anyhow. Thanks for your input. ....

Thanks for your reply. I'm reasonably certain that the gauge, lines, etc. are ok. I actually installed the gauge to confirm what the low oil pressure light was telling me. The two seem to agree--when the light comes on, the gauge is reading 5 psi or less. I appreciate your input. ....

5-17-08, Low oil pressure on my Kioti LK-3054 with 157 hr. is the same a the operator of a Kioti 1914 who posted on 7-2-2006 and I was wondering what his fix or cause was. My oil warning light came on at 1200 rpm as I was shutting down after a normal two hr. period, never did that before, I usually cool off at 1000 rpm no light on. I verified that I had 25psi/1600 cold start, and five min later 15psi/1600rpm and hot idle of 5psi. The highest rpm I went to was 2300/20psi There is no engine noise or vibration other than normal diesel. I haven't dropped the pan yet, waiting for a gasket from dealer, the P.R.V. has been verified not stuck. I put a needle pressure gauge on to verify the numbers. I use Delo 400 15w40 oil for diesel and Kioti filters. We use the tractor to brush clear and disk after. No abuse; oil & filter changed several times due to dusty conditions. Anyone have any info on the 1914 post or thoughts concerning this condition. BTW since I started this search on sever sites I have ran across three others with identical symptons ....

CB: Keep us posted. Meanwhile, you might want a wide-viscosity-range oil, and the widest are in some synthetics. I think there's one that's 0/50. ....
