Have a 4640 MFWD with a cab. Transmission is broken. too much to fix! What is a fair price for this tractor

Sounds like you are caught between a sneaze and a fart on this issue. Have you gotten a repair estimate yet? Depending on what is wrong with the trans. it could be tough to place a value on the repair. In all probability the John Deere shop is going to do the repair reguardless. Have you considered trading in the tractor on a new or newer used model the dealer may be trying to move. If the trans is economicly repairable the dealer will do the repair and try to sell it; otherwise it is off to the auction with it. Could be something as simple as a clutch pack seal but no telling until you have an estimate. The other consideration is what condition is the tractor in? Will it be worth even close to what you have in the repairs afterwards? You can buy a new tractor and extense up to 60% in the first year. You may want to sit down and juggle the numbers. In most cases it is cheaper to repair and keep running it but not always. Just bear in mind "in for a penny; in for a pound". ....
