I have a 4 cylinder 8N tractor. Stopped like it was out of gas.Checked it over, put new points and condenser.Getting excellent spark.Put gas and ether in each spark plug.Turns over , but no firing at all. Why doesn't it attempt to even fire? The distributor is on the front of the motor. It cannot be timed. It is between the late 50's and early 60's time frame. Any info is greatly appreciated ! Thanks in advance, Greg

Greg, you still 6V or 12? I'm still 6. Had kinda same prob other day. Take breather hose off at carb to see if gas pours out. If so you may not have enough cranking speed to suck up gas and when it's flooded no air either. No air, no ignition. I drained gas out of breather hose and hooked charger to battery and cranked right up. Don't know what you did on distributor, but make sure you got plug wires on right. ....

It is a 6V.I should clarify that I had been using it for about 15 minutes, with no problems. It then just shut off by itself, like I had just run out of gas. The air filter is off.I disconnected the carb and shot straight ether into the intake manifold. Still, not even firing with the spark.... ....

Those 8n's with front distributor are known for problems with the coil, so i would recommend you replace the coil it is likely the problem even if you get fire at the plug i helped a friend just a couple weeks ago with a problem similar his would run but run terrible ]then quit then start again. good luck ron ....

it could be that the distributer cap is put on 180 degrees.
this would make it fire when it is on the exhaust stroke. ....
