I may already have my answer, but would like to get some input from the experts here. I have a B7610HST with 80 hours on it, and it has been fully serviced. Here's the problem. If the tractor is idling and I move forward a short distance, the hydro makes an audible and periodic clanking noise like a hammer hitting the casing. This does not happen at 2000rpm where I typically operate it. It this cavitation or something serious to look into? Thanks in advance.

Hydro's don't make clanking noises! You do have problems! Will it do it every time? Can you relate to a certain shaft speed with any of these sounds? Are they more prevelent in one area? Was the hydro petal fully depressed at an idle? ....

Yikes..time to contact the dealer and have them get into it. Your tractor is under warranty, don't take any chances with it. Clanking noises from a hydrostat aren't right. ....

The clank is always present at low RPM, and audible at a distance. Again, it only appears to happen during low RPM when moving. The pedal does not need to be fully depressed for the noise to appear.
I can't tell for sure, but it seams to be coming from the left side near the axle. The best description of the sound is that of a hammer hitting the casing. What I don't understand is why it isn't noticeable at higher RPM.
Either way, I'll confirm the conditions of the noise and get the dealer to look at it. Thanks for the input. ....

You guys are good. I jacked it up and wiggled the wheels. Turns out that the hubs were loose. The 7610 has as adjustable wheelbase. The clank was really noticeable during idle--apparently the sound was travelling through the axel into the transmission. There is one bolt and one safety pin on each hub. All of the wheel bolts were tight. Thanks again for your help. ....

When a hydro starts clanking the options of travel are slim with the tractor. One would be by truck and the other would be to pick it up. That simplifies it quite a bit as when a hydro makes a clank it's days of working are over. Glad we could help you! ....
