Dennis, oh Wizard of our site, how tough (read: work) would it be to set things up so that it could be in a format more "PDA" friendly?
I know a lot of sites now have a sort of echo or second page for iPods and such.
The reason I ask is I was trying to browse TP from my iTouch recently while at the condo in Florida. Trying to zoom in far enough for these old eyes to read it meant I got about 10% of the page on the screen at once. That equates to a LOT of scrolling.
I know it is possible because a bunch of aircraft type sites I use are set up to be full screen on a PDA.
I didn't know if it would be hard to feed just a select portion of the 'regular' data into a new page like mobile.tractorpoint or tractorpoint/mobile or something like that.
Also, if you want some more content for the 'podcast' page let me know. I'll happily put in some time just to give that one lonely 'bota some company over there. LOL
Best of luck.

I have revisited the smartphone version idea. I found prevous effort still to difficult to navigate and read on a smartphone.
The current version I have running has more clicks but loads faster in big type and is more cell phone oriented.
I have only done a test version of the active message view, and it is a work in progress!
Any comments welcome!

I should add that this is just a prototype and I will add some general menu capabilities, etc. eventually, right now you can read messages and post replies. The reply page for now is the same as the PC browser version. ....

Dennis,
I must say the new version is much easier to use & read, but the first thing I noticed is that the 'reply' feature sends you to a 'recent threads' kind of page. LOL
Keep up the good work!
Best of luck. ....

Dennis, a much better version for sure!
The only suggestion I would offer is a way to show more than just who posted and when.
The 'original' format showing the 'messages as posted' seems to be an easier to follow format.
Best of luck. ....

One thing I could do is where I show who posted and when, for the most recent message show the full content, then the balance of who posted and when. What I found in the old foramt was that when someone replied to a 50 message thread it was too overwhelming for the mobile format.

I think that would work out ok.
The part that's a bit of a PITA is that you can't see the 'thread' format, you have to go from the index, to a message, back to the index, go to the next message, etc., very tedious.
If there was a way to open the thread in a continuous string as happens now on the 'regular' board that would be much easier to read IMHO.
Either that or an RSS feed that the mobile device could access.
Best of luck. ....

Murf, please don't mess this thing up for us in the "Geezer" category. I'm lucky to know which button turns this thing on let alone any of thse gizmos you "Kids" carry around now. Most of you have to be lost staring at that itty bitty screen while walking down a sidewalk.
Merry Christmas. ....

Frank, you're safe, and so is the Tractor Point you know & love!
What Dennis has up & running is a duplicate site basically, but without as much graphic content so the new compact computers (they really are much more than just phones now) can more easily & faster access the board.
As for the itty bitty screen, it certainly is that, however, it is also a fully functional computer that fits in the palm of my hand or shirt pocket and does everything my full-sized laptop does and more.
In fact, my 'old geezer' (but don't tell her I called her that) Mother wants one for Christmas. You joke about which button to turn it on, there isn't even that, and with a single touch of the screen I have Tractor Point, my email, etc.
Times change Frank. You don't have to start the pup motor first to get the tractor going any more and computers are progressing too.
My gal had a laugh with her folks on the phone the other day. They got an email from me at a time they new I had said I would be flying, in fact I was on my way to pick her Dad up. She confirmed that yes indeed I was flying, that I email, text & talk on the phone while flying quite often.
Best of luck. ....

Murf;
Hey, thanks for all the update on what's happening in the world of electronic gadgets, or may be I shouldn't call them gadgets anymore. They are tools of the trade now, and I'm certainly not against progress, All my kids use them in their trades like I used John Deere tractors in my trade.
Please keep one hand on the stick, (if they have sticks anymore), while you are looking at that itty bitty screen, we'd miss you around here.
Merry Christmas. Frank. ....

Thanks for the kind words Frank, and a Merry Christmas to you & yours also.
They do still call them sticks or yokes depending on the style of controls.
I don't worry about technology and progress too much though, the plane I fly normally was built in 1953 and I firmly believe it's as good as anything built today. It sure is a bunch more roomy too!! It's like a '53 Chevy with wings! LOL
I do have a form of autopilot though, for when I need to look at the itty bitty screen, or take pictures. I do that lots.
Look Ma, no hands!!!! LOL
Best of luck. ....

Hey Murf,
Let me know how you like my latest version, at least I eliminated the back and forth to the index.

Much better Dennis!!
That's a big improvement in how it works, at least on my iPhone anyways. I'm not sure if there's a difference in the formatting for other 'smart phones' or not.
Best of luck. ....
