You guys won't believe this one. I almost didn't, if it wasn't for the fact that I watched it happen!

My rented 80 gallon hot water heater decided to blow up internally, sending 6-8inch fragments of heating elements within the tank, and ultimately meeting its demise. I called the power company, of which I rent this unit from, they said they would be out the next morning to check it out, as it was 11:30pm now.

Two guys showed up, inspected the tank, and declared the puppy kaputski, and scheduled a new unit to be installed. They showed up again with a new heater intow. They could not get the old 26 inch diameter heater thru my 31 inch doorway, even after I removed the door itself. After awhile, they did succeed and promptly turned the corner into the hallway...a 41 inch wide hallway, where they lost control of the heater on the furniture dollie, and let it fly into one of my newly refinished plaster walls. After a few moments of sheer shock on my behalf, there were afew moments of pure hellfire being spouted by me. After that, they vehemently denied they had ever come near said walls!

They got the old unit out to the truck, brought the new unit in, and crashed it into the new door frame leading into the utility/laundry room, tearing off part of my natural wood trim casing. Still more damages after spending the entire winter totally gutting and rebuilding the main floor!

Long story short...I put together a damage/repair estimate after these two "boobs" left; corporate acknowledged it and promptly responded by offering to pay in full as I threatened legal action. Or, they said, we will give you the new Hot Water heater FREE...and you'll never have to pay rent again either, with complete 10 year warranty. As much as the money sounded enticing, I opted for the heater, as it is a hydrostone lined unit valued at $1500.00. I now have a warranty and "in hot water" to boot!

The look of horror on their faces must have been priceless
You on the other hand must have been ready to kill
Hopefully you have a happy ending ....

Seriously...I don't think that they even cared, judging by the looks on their faces and lack of remarks.

I, on the other hand...just about needed a change of pants!
It did all work out, as I repaired the damaged wall areas, even though they were virgin, and I got a top of the line hot water heater with ten year warranty for my troubles, free.

It's like the commercial on TV: Plumber labor rates,$45/hr; hot water heater, $1500.00; memories - priceless!

Nobody is that clumsy without a little help. Did they toke up for breakfast or have a half rack for lunch? Probably both.

Sad to say, but I think less than half the population has the desire coupled with the actually ability, to go to work.

You would not believe the amount of drug and alcohol usage out there. Except for Willie. He believes it now.

Every fast food restaurant in this town has a sign in the window begging people to apply for jobs. My sister and her hubby work for major retail stores. They say that the pee test scares most applicants off but still knocks half of the remaining applicants out of the running.

Many cannot write well enough to fill in the blanks on the application and of the few that get hired, some never show up for the first day and a big percentage disappear right after they get the first paycheck.

The remaining ones muddle through and get stymied when confronted with the prospect of passing a 27 inch object through a 31 inch hole.

I better stop now. I am getting depressed. ....

Mark -

Believe it or not, these two guys were about 60ish, and appeared to be stone cold sober.

I agree with you though Mark, what represents the work force
today is scary. Having been in industry and manufacturing environments, I can't remember how many times I walked out on a manufacturer's floor to a piece of equipment only to find an operator that was stoned in some capacity. I was at one facility, when I heard what sounded like a fork truck dropping a pallet on the floor, only to realize that those were gunshots going off and over our heads, from the fork truck driver that was mad at his girlfriend the next machine over - she died!

The kicker...they get to be employed, while I continue to suffer as I try to find a challenging and rewarding job, Heck any job for that matter - just isn't anything here!
I'm tired of being told "your over qualified", "with your skills, you could get a job anywhere", etc.

Now I better stop, I'm depressing myself ! But your point is on the money.
