Some years ago I tried a well set up Dalco 3000, which at that time was a little more capable than their large Magnatrac. I was impressed until I tried a little bitty old beat up orange 4wd compact tractor with a loader. I think it was an old tired Kubota 5100. The compact tractor was not only cheaper, but was clearly better in every regard even though only half the size. Sorry, but that is how I saw them. If you don't like the compacts, Ingersoll Rand makes a little contractor's rubber tired loader/hoe for about the same price as the Magnatrac and it is a lot more machine. It doesn't lay track, though. ....

I bought a used Junior recently, made some repairs, and have used it just a few hours. It seems to be just what I needed for moving dirt in tight places. I'll be glad to write more if you're still looking.

I own a 98 magnatrac junior with about 20 hours of use. its a great machine for people that need to clean horse stables and get into tight places. The machine is very realizable and strong. I have it on craigslist.com for sale because I need a bigger tractor with robber tires for ease of transportation to pull a disc, mower etc. ....

Rick, considering the original post was nearly EIGHT years ago, don't hold your breath waiting for a reply.

You might also have better success selling it in the CLASSIFIEDS section than on the board itself.

Best of luck. ....

Yeah... I wish I had invested in oil stocks when that post was new!

Thanks for the classifieds tip. This crawler has been sitting on its trailer for about 2 years now... Time to recycle it into something I will use more often!

The last I think I saw a new one, or something like it for sale was about $14,000 plus shipping. Even if it's half of that for a used one at $7000 you could buy a REAL dozer that's maybe 20 years old but will hold up fine. And it's going to be heavier for more traction. Some equipment are not made for running on a gradient for long periods of time as the engine oil sump may not pick up oil. For example my skid steer manual say the "Engine Gradeability (intermittent duty)" is 35 degrees.

As far as using hydraulic equipment, consider getting a skid steer loader and installing over-the-tire tracks for about $1,200. Skid steers are generally weight-distributed 60-40 or 70-30 biased to the rear. I have tracks on mine that are a little over 16" wide comparable to a real dozer. Go to www.tracksplus.com. You can but right from the manufacturer. I do a lot of hilly type work--some so steep you can hardly walk them--driving a skid steer with tracks in rverse up a hill feels and is safer, and with the weight over the back of the machine going backward you gain much more traction. And with a skid steer once you get where you want you can zip around on flat ground AND use the hydraulic aux. lines for an auger, etc. ....
