Ok, bought used JD (now have green and mature pumpkins) and finding knowing how the bucket is working to be something to learn. It does not have level indicator on it and please green paint cost more than silver does per pound I think. Must buy it now each piece if us JD for little less than $300. Nope will not do that.

So began looking for options and something hit my thinking on this, how about a backup camera? Talking about an after market one for vehicle with camera mounted in position to be protected as much as possible but it looking down on the bucket so you can really see what is going on.

Kenny ol' buddy,

Keep it simple. Drill a hole in the top of the bucket and bolt a length of flat bar to it, then bend it up till it's pointed directly at your eye with the bucket sitting flat on the ground.

Depending on whether you see the end, top or bottom you can gauge the bucket position.

Best of luck. ....

Thanks Murf. That is too simple. I guess you could paint the end one color and the top another and the bottom another if you needed any extra visual indicator.

Aren't you about ready for some more South Carolina BBQ? Of course you would probably enjoy it more about February. If you catch my "drift". ....

Arc that is an option on the fel I have and to buy it now I think was over $300 maybe $371 might not be correct but if memory is anywhere near correct it was over $300. Bought new with fel was a good bit less.

Murf I think has the KISS concept on this but the idea of backup camera still have my thoughts IF there is a safe mounting location for the camera. That way could also see what is going on in the bucket while loading, hauling and dumping. ....

I intended to suggest making one.
length of 3/4 black pipe, weld a flat on it with hole to go on pin at top of cylinder, length of 1/2 rod, thread the end, and a piece of flat bent over to go on the pin at the bucket.
That is what is on the massey.
The pipe swivels on the top pin, adjust the rod so that it is level when the bucket is flat.
Probably cost $25 for the metal ....

the rod can be painted at the top so that when yellow bucket is below lever, black ring for level, red above level.
You can get pretty good at knowing just how much the bucket is curled. ....

Murf, I saw your name on another site with an indication that your equipment includes a Ventrac. If that was you, I was thinking of trading my Grasshopper for one, and wondered how you liked it. ....

It wasn't me, but I do have some limited experience with one.

A family member has one and a dealer gave me some time back to use for a while as a demo unit. He hoped I'd buy some from him.

My was, and still is, they're a lot like a Swiss Army knife. They were built to do, and will do, a bunch of different things, but not always very well.

I also don't find they offer much in the way of value.

For what they cost, never mind you're then stuck with only their attachments, you have lots of other choices.

At the time I recall shutting down the gabby sales rep. by merely asking him what a Ventrac could do that a 4WD Kubota F series couldn't do? Especially given that I could buy a far more powerful Kubota for the same money or less?

At the time, a 37 hp 4WD Kubota F series with 72" deck was the same money as a 25hp Ventrac diesel.

Not much comparison between the two in my mind.

Best of luck. ....
