I have a rather old tractor, but it is very helpful.

Today I was driving it and fluid started pouring out of the centre of the steering wheel.

It appears to be somewhat aerated hydraulic fluid.

Any suggestions on how this could happen?

Correction: While looking for possible source of the problem, I found the manufacturers plate saying SD4643T.

Note: Oil level for gearbox appears to have dropped - now just above minimum level. ....

So I started trying to remove the steering column, but didn't make a lot of progress.
I'm guessing there is a blown seal in here somewhere for fluid to run up the column and out under the steering wheel, but I haven't found a helpful diagram yet.

Removed the 3 bolts that appear to hold the column and the power steering control together, but something else is keeping the whole lot in place... ....

It sounds like it has lost a seal in the power steering box. It's a pretty common problem.

Best of luck. ....

Nice to know I'm not too weird :-)

Anyone able to explain how I can remove the steering column?
I got as far as removing 3 bolts at the base, but something else is holding it in place.

Just had my arm operated on, so unable to do anything right now, but will be back in action soon. ....

There is a bracket pointing towards the front of the tractor that needs to be unbolted. ....

Figured it out. Removed the steering wheel (had to cobble together a puller that would fit), removed the tubular cover from the steering shaft. Pulled a split pin (not sure that's standard?) that held the column to the power steering unit. Then the three bolts I'd taken off earlier freed the problem area.

Circlip inside that removed, then the seal. 33mm OD, 20mm ID x 7mm seal ordered (unusual size). Turned up overnight. Cleaned it all up a bit & put it back together. Fluid added to the reservoir, started it up and moved the steering a bit. No leaks so far!!!

Still have to put the instruments and switch panels back on, steering wheel etc, but looking like it's all good.

Hi Sean, I seem to be having the same problem. I have gotten as far as removing the steering wheel but I am stuck on removing the steering column cover. There is a threaded ring towards the base of the cover that I can loosen but it does not seem to do anything.

Any tips on removing the cover? Mine is a SD1843 so it might be a little different though. ....

It's been a while, but I seem to remember the column cover unscrewing and the threaded ring just being a locking nut arrangement. Bit of WD40 might help? ....
