 855 what size tiller

Tim,
In the original brochures from that time, JD listed a 50" tiller for the 755 and 855, and a 60" for the 955. My used 755 came with a 58" tiller that the guy obviously got a lot of use out of, but I haven't tried it yet. I thought that if it seems too big, I guess I can remove a row of tines.

Tim, I too saw that ad. For the money, that looks like a really sturdy built
tiller. As far as the 855 handling a 60" tiller I would think it all depends on
your application. Variables such as the type of soil you would be tilling and if
you plan on using it on a occasional basis or profesionally. For comparison I
have a 4ft BEFCO tiller on a JD-750. The tractor handles the 4 footer with no
problem H.P. wise. My only observation/concern that I would share with you is
that it can be rough on the PTO drivetrain; especially when tilling in partial
clay and striking an occasional stone or two. I know personally that I wouldn't
want anything bigger for that size/weight tractor.

According to the JD documentation I have the standard tiller JD recommends for
the 855 is a JD-550 model which is a 50-inch tiller. The compatability chart
lists a JD-660 (60"Wink yeah right for the 955. So according to JD you are in the relm.

One other concern might be the weight of the tiller. I have to believe that the
King Cutter unit offered by CT is HEAVY! You might want to check the weight on
that unit as I gotta believe that is approaching 700 to 900 lbs.

Hope I have given you some worthwhile things to consider. Perhaps others on the
list have more first hand experience with the King Kutter line. Good
luck on the purchase and please keep the list updated as to your final
purchasing decision.

Regards Mark.

I run a 48 inch King Kutter on a Kuboto B2100 with no problems in very rocky ground. I think I could run a 5 footer with no problem. The King Kutter is heavy but it does not bounce around much. I do use a moldboard plow on new ground first which I'm sure helps alot. I know the JD is heavier than my B-2100 so I don't think you would have a problem, just go slow the first time over the ground and not too deep.

I use the 50" on my 755 with absolutely no problem. I could believe the 60" would be fine. Check the weight and go slow and shallow through hard ground, as previously suggested.

I hooked up the Tiller yesterday. Worked great, turned the rock hard dirt into fluffy soil. I did have to go very slow with tiller set to the max depth.
