I'm working on a deal (another one) with a local dealer. He has a Ford 1620 hydro 4X4, turfs, 1300 hrs. He is willing to take a 7108 loader off a 1320 and put it on this tractor for me. The tractor looks like it has spent some time stored outdoors. It's a 1993 and has the bumps and scratches you would expect. The front tires need to be replaced but the rears are excellent. He threw out a price off the top of his head of $12,500. The tractor needs some paint touchup, some bulbs replaced, and a good cleaning and degreasing of some parts. I don't think $12,500 is a good price for this machine.

What is a good price?

Does anyone know the 3pt hitch capacity?

Does anyone know the hydraulic flow rate?

Dealer says 27 hp. Is this correct?

Is a 7108 the right loader for this machine?

Jerry

Jerry: www.tractortips.com has basic stats for the tractor. It makes small difference, but it may be a NH rather than a Ford tractor. I forget the year of the Ford/NH merger, but it was during production of the '20-series. According to tractortips, production of 1620's started in '92. It gave 27HP as the engine rather than pto power. I forgot to look for the hydraulic capacity or I might have saved you a trip to tractortips.

The 1620 is somewhat an odd ball. Ford manufactured 1110, '12, '13, '15, '17, '19 and '21 model tractors. I think these models were carried over from the original '00 series with maybe 1110's and 1210's were added. I think that Ford plans were to keep more or less the same models for the '20 series. In fact the 1720 was a very popular tractor and remained in production by NH until recently. There was some tinkering with models that produced '15 and '25 model tractors, and I thing the 1620 may be sort of like that.

There was really not enough space between 1510 and 1710 tractors to justify an tractor that is actually different in capabilities. There are both 1520 and 1720 tractors, so the question is why a 1620? I think my 1710 engine is 27 HP, same as a 1620, so maybe a 1620 is sort of a dressed down successor to the 1710. All this doesn't necessarily mean that a 1620 is a bad tractor however--perhaps a little uncommon though.

Jerry -

Actually - I just saw a 1620 this weekend. I have an old brouchure at home - I'll get you the numbers tonite unless someone else does first. I think 27 hp engine is right.

The one I saw is about the same age and condition as you described, w/ loader (I thought 7308, but again, I'll check), MMM, soft cab, extra rear hyd, for $12,300. Couldn't read hr meter, they were closed and I didn't want to open it up.

I saw this one when it first showed up on the yard - had all the manuals w/ it. It USED TO have a hyd top link for the 3 pt. Contols still there because they mounted on control blok for top link and aux hyd, but the cyl and connections are gone.

Jerry, I don't know if you've found the hydraulic capacity or 3ph capacity yet. If I think of the tractor like a successor to the 1710, the hydraulic capacity is likely around 8 gpm and almost 1900 lbs. lift capacity.

I don't follow prices much and when I do there in Canadian dollars, so that's not much help. If it's an off top-of head price, then it probably can be negotiated. The tractor would be worth more if it has HST, mid-pto and the 1310 loader is a good size for the 1620.

I think that the original Ford 1720 has a 3-cyl Shibaura engine--maybe even the same as my 1710. I also recall hearing of 4-cyl. 1720's and that NH did a major redesign of the Ford 1720. If that's correct, then there's the possibility the 1620's are successor to the original Ford 1720, and maybe with a HST option. Larger compacts in the '10 series didn't offer HST. If this speculation is correct, then a 1620 might be well worth looking at. The Ford 1720 was a very popular tractor.

Tom, the dealer is holding the line about the $12,500 price even after I showed him an ad for a distant dealer offering the same machine for $7,500. I saw one of these sell on Ebay two weeks ago for $8,500. Both tractors had a loader, 4X4, and Hydro. Oh well, it's his tractor and he can ask whatever he wants for it. But for me, I'll keep looking.

A previous message asked why a 1620 between a 1520 and 1715.
The 1620 came only as 4 Wheel Drive Hydrostatic (no shifting). I purchased a 1620 new with backhoe, loader, rake
and mowing deck in '95 for 25k on the Ford Employee Plan.
The machine is a workhorse and with Hydrostatic makes operation so much easier. Machine has been trouble free, with proper maintenance of course. Few 1620's were sold because the price was higher than a 1715 and who would pay more for a smaller tractor (1715). The 1620 was the largest
20's series available with Full Hydrostatic. ....
