 Mitsubishi D2000 2wd price should I purchase

Help! I am looking at a mitsubishi D2000 2cyl diesel with 500+ hrs and a tiller for $3500. The year model is unknown, it is in fair looking condition, with good tires and the tiller seems to be ok. There is no 3 point hitch but the seller said it is easy to install. If anyone can give me some advice it would really help,I like the tractor but I know nothing about a Mitsubishi. Thanks in advance for any input, David Rutherford

David,Don't know alot about mitsubihi but do know it is a grey market tractor. I went to OK tractor's website http://www.oktractors.com/ and see that they have this same tractor listed for $3500. It might be worth contacting them and asking them what they think, but based on there cost, it seems the cost is reasonable.

Please don't take offense...I am going on my soapbox briefly and may save you a headache. I get calls routinely from folks who say they bought a grey from "a guy" who knew little about the tractor, but "told me" parts were easy to get, and "thought" it was an 80 something, and heck, said it would be "real easy" to put on a 3 point hitch, and on and on. But hey, it seemed like a good buy. We and other dealers of grey market tractors who are invested enough in the market to maintain a web presence, an actual office and phone, really own parts books, and assist our customers after the sale frequently lose retail sales to "a guy" because the "guy" can say anything knowing he will not back it up, has no overhead other than the cost of the tractor, and, well, a number of other things. The buyer then wonders why we don't want to 1.diagnose his mechanical problem via e-mail, 2.spend time helping him get hard to find parts with little profit margin, and so on. The reason is that the profit is in the tractor sale. We'll do anything we can to help our customers... they've paid for that service and knowledge. And knowledge IS one of our business assets...assets aren't generally given away. If the 3 point hitch is so easy to install, ask the seller to install it. The lift arms, vertical arms, sway assemblies, and hardware alone will cost $250-$300 retail. The top link bracket, if it doesn't have one, will have to be made...add $40. The sway assembly is a BEAR on that Mitsi unless it is set up for it already...no good mounting point. The tractor is mid to late 70s and extremely hard to parts source unless you have salvage units. Ask him where to get parts, and then confirm that they can supply for a D2000...chances are the none of them has ever seen a D2000 parts book. It's a good tractor...but not a good investment IMHO. There...I feel better now. Really...I wouldn't buy it based on the parts issue alone. Too many other good options for not a whole lot more money.

Great advice Wayne. That's why I stayed away from the grey's and bought green, for a few dollars more. Parts for my green can be had from anywhere in the states. If I need it, service is just a few miles from home. I am happy!!

Keith,Can appreciate your buying a John Deere and sure you will be happy but note that Wayne didn't say to not buy greys but take care about what you buy and from whom. Grey market tractors are like any other tractor in that you need to know what you are buying and that both service and parts are available. You should note that your John Deere is a Yanmar but is backed up by John Deere which say a lot. The same tractor wearing a Yanmar badge sold by Joe Shmuckatela has no such backing even if it is the same exact tractor. See where I am going here, like you have heard before that it isn't so much the tractor but the dealer who sells it and by the way, yes I own a grey, a Hinomoto E2304.

I understand your reasoning, but the grey's DO offer a profound value due to lower pricing. I can sell you a 27hp 4wd Yanmar in good to very good condition for $5995...a machine larger than a 750, and a little under an 850...you won't find that in used JD. Hundreds of Yanmar dealers nationwide too who can get you parts. I'm just saying be careful..as one should in any transaction when you are not personally familiar with the equipment. If your green is JD, it is Yanmar.
