I have 1 of the steering pistons leaking. It seems to be leaking from where the rod comes thru the screw on cap. I took it off but not sure if I need special tools to tear it down or if it s a part better just replaced. I would just ignore it but it leaks enough that every time I use it I have to add fluid in order to steer it. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Parts book shows two types of cylinders. Probably based on tractor serial number range. One has a cylinder head threaded onto the barrel externally, the other looks to be threaded internally. The internally threaded might be the most challenging, probably having only two holes(designed for a pin type spanner wrench) with which to grip the part. The external type can probably be removed with a pipe wrench. Beyond that, I doubt anything special would be required. ....

Thank you. I suspect it is the internal thread as all I see when I remove the screw on cap is a flat surface with the rod sticking thru. I will check again for holes for a spanner wrench. I appreciate the info. ....

Screw on cap? That sounds like the externally threaded cylinder. If that's what you have, the rest should pull out. ....

Yes it is an external screw on cap (external threads on piston body). Work has me in a bind, will get back on it this weekend. Thank you so much! ....
