I find very little info on a 340 Fred in Tenn

I do not see anything that is '340' for long tractor models.

This is the link for a service manual for 360, 460, 510 (3 cylinders)
A tractor identification plate should be located on the right-hand side of the transmission housing.
Check that for model, look on the transmission casting for a date.
Pictures would help of the data plate as well as the tractor. ....

UTB made a Model 340, but this make be incorrect for your tractor.
