 Which Kubota to Buy

I have just purchased a new home that has about 5 acres of mowing. The previous owner kept a small area around the house mowed with a push mower and then bushhoged the remaining once every month or so…… It looks pretty good this way, but I would like to keep it mowed a little nicer. The previous owner did this work with an older Ford 2wd tractor and 6’ bushhog. The house also has 600’ of gravel driveway that will require maintenance and some snow removal. With this in mind, I am leaning toward buying a compact tractor and implements instead of a dedicated mower.

I have been looking at tractors in the 30 hp range. I have looked at the JD’s, New Holland, and Kubota tractors. From my limited experience with tractors, I came away from my looking thinking that the Kubota was the best value for my money.

What I am thinking about buying is:

Kubota B7800, 4WD, R4 tires
Woods 72” RFM with rear discharge
Landpride 72” bushhog
Landpride 72” Rear Blade

I really like the “extras” found on the more optioned B2910, but is it worth the extra money? Also, if I would pay the extra for the B2910, should I just step up to the L3130 with these extras, more weight and larger wheelbase for stability? Are there any resale issues between the smaller B series and the L series?

The property is mostly flat with some dips and hills in front along the driveway.

Like I said, I know very little about tractors and wanted some opinions on what I was thinking about buying to handle the maintenance around the house.

Thanks in advance for any input or suggestions…….

I have the 7800 and it has been a great tractor. Doing it all over, I would have paid the extra $ for the 2910. There are some obvious differences, but there are some subtle ones too. The 2910 is better equiped for rear hydraulics, a larger alternator, better headlights, rear hydraulic block, along with the obvious creature features you can see by comparing the machines.

I've spent a considerable amount of money upgrading my 7800, but it has been fun doing it.

If you are going to primarily mow with the tractor, probably best to stay with the B-Series. For more landscaping and heavier implement work, you may want to look harder at the L-series. The FEL on the 7800 does a great job, with plenty of capacity for the landscaping work I've been doing.

I have 12 acres with about 2 to mow around the house. I still use my 42" 21HP Craftsman 'finish mower' Wink yeah right for that but I got an L3130 for bushhogging, scraping, etc. for the rest. It is an AMAZING machine. My lot has some very hilly spots, and by sticking with the recommended up-and-down vs. across strategy of working hills, it is wonderful. Plenty of power, lots of implement flexibility, etc. etc. I didn't look hard at JD but looked closely at NH and FarmTrac. The HST on my L3130 is fabulous.

Enough blubbering - count this as one vote Kubota and one vote L3130 Wink yeah right

-Brian

Heres a vote the other way.
You didnt say anything about moving dirt, gravel or doing any loader work, grading or plowing. If you were planning on lots of this I would have to say go with the 3130. For just mowing, even some snow removal or spreading gravel, dirt or light landscaping, the 2910 would suit you as well. If I were looking for something for use around the yard only, I think I would go for the B7800.
